Over het werk Hoe kan een dagelijks voorwerp interactie tussen mensen verbeelden? In het werk van Marcella van Zanten spelen sociale relaties of
processen vaak een rol, zoals de band tussen geliefden of tussen
moeder en kind. Die vertaalt zij naar de orde van de dagelijkse
dingen, bijvoorbeeld naar objecten die een functie kunnen hebben in
het bemiddelen van die relaties. Marcella van Zanten maakt onder meer schilderijen, installaties en keramiek. Het contact en de relatie die zij als kunstenaar met haar materialen heeft speelt in haar werk een belangrijke rol. Vormen die in eerste instantie in een schilderij zijn ontstaan kunnen later een plek krijgen in een sculptuur van keramiek. Uiteindelijk worden haar werken - in welk medium dan ook - als 'voorwerp' de bemiddelaars in de relatie die zij wil hebben met de kijker. Veel van de installaties van Marcella van Zanten zijn in opdracht tot stand gekomen. Naast het kunstenaarschap is zij docent en organiseert ze tentoonstellingen en presentaties. Vinken en Kampen, 2006 How can a daily object reflect the interaction between people? In the artwork of Marcella van Zanten are social relations and processes like the bond between lovers or the mother and child a big issue. She translates these to the order of daily things, like objects who can have a function in the interaction of relations. Slices of bread and cutlery are often silent witnesses of family talk at the kitchen table, around the teapot many bonds between people are talked over and reinforced. The artworks of Marcella van Zanten can make this visible, but also it is possible that installations play an active role in the communication between people. Marcella van Zanten makes paintings, installations and ceramics. The contact and the relations, which she has as an artist with her materials and her work, play an important part. Shapes, which perform in paintings, can perform later in a sculpture of ceramic. Finally her works in whatever material are go-between in the relation, which she likes to have with the onlooker. Many of the installations of Marcella van Zanten are made in commission. Besides her being an artist she teaches and organizes exhibitions and presentations. Vinken en Kampen, 2006 —

"Installatie Kaasfabriek"
Het dijkenstelsel van drie kleuren klei is gelegen in een bassin
met water in de kaasfabriek en verwijst naar de natte grond in
Noord Holland die alleen geschikt was voor de productie van gras,
daar kan je niet van eten maar wel door er koeien op te zetten en
van hun melk weer producten te maken zoals kaas. Ze weerspiegelen
de leidingen in het plafond.
"Installation Cheese factory"
The dikes in the basin of water in this installation in the cheese
factory are made of 3 different colors of clay and it tells
something about the wet ground in Holland which was only suitable
for the growing of grass. Because you can't eat grass but the cows
do and they give milk. So cheese and other products are the end
result. They mirror the water pipes on the ceiling.

Tegelwand is bewerkt met verabstraheerde details uit de
fabriek.

"Des Nachts"
Deze wand in de lichtmastenfabriek in Hoorn is voorzien van een
reuze vlinderdoos, refererend aan de nachtvlinders die op
straatlantaarnlicht afkomen. Het seriematig werken in de fabriek
komt terug in de series vlinders. De "vlinders" zijn gemaakt voor
hun schaduwwerking en voorzien van een stuk glas en een lampje
daaronder. Het materiaal van de vlinders is keramiek en diverse
soorten flessen-raggers.
"At Night"
A wall in the light factory is covered with a giant " box" of
moths. The ones which come to the light at night. The way of
working in a factory (in series) is referred to by the 4 different
series of moths. The sculptures are made for the shadow on the
wall, a piece of glass and a light bulb underneath help forming the
shadow. The sculptures are made of ceramic and bottle
cleaners.

"Lucifers"
De dennenboom en de loofboom zijn leveranciers voor masten en
papier maar ook lucifers waar weer een bos mee aangestoken kan
worden.
"Matches"
The evergreen and the deciduous tree give masts, paper and matches
to mankind at the same time the matches can cause fire in a
forest.

"Het verlichtte theehuis"
Het sterk verlichtte theehuis werd een reuze lantaarn tijdens het
Velserbeekfestival. De ramen zijn met doorzichtig doek bespannen en
daarachter glijden de voorwerpen langzaam voorbij in een passend
meditatief tempo: theepotten, kopjes, lepeltjes, suikerklontjes en
koekjes.
"the lit-up Teahouse"
The sharply lit-up Teahouse became a gigantic lantern during the
Velserbeek festival. The windows were covered inside with soft thin
material and behind that objects slowly slides along, in a speed
that fits with the meditative character of drinking tea: teapots,
cups, spoons and sugar cubes as well as cookies.

"Het verlichtte theehuis",detail
Een reuze theepot draait rond in een hel verlicht antiek Chinese
theehuis, gelegen in een park rondom Velserbeek. De theepot
verwijst naar de bezigheid in het theehuis en behalve de theepot
draaien ook suikerklontjes en kopjes en dergelijke rond. Er staan
ook dingen stil zoals de forsythia"s en het hanglampje. Het
theehuis is een reuze toverlantaarn tijdens het nachtelijke deel
van het festival.
"The detail of the lit-up Teahouse"
A gigantic teapot is turning around in a truly and completely
lit-up antic Chinese teahouse, in a park near Velserbeek. The
teapot shows the things people do in a teahouse where except the
teapot also sugar cubes and cups and other things are turning. Some
things are not turning like the flowers and the light bulb. This
teahouse became a gigantic magic lantern during the night part of
the festival.

"Venus en Eva"
Was Venus nog een Grieks ideaal waar het goed gevormde lichaam de
gevormde geest uitstraalt, in de bijbel eet Eva een appel waardoor
het lichaam verderfelijk wordt en gescheiden van de geest. Dit
beeldje staat in een "appelboomgaard".
"Venus and Eve"
Was Venus the Greek ideal of a good shaped body and a well shaped
mind, in the bible Eve eats an Apple which causes the difference
between body and mind. This sculpture is standing in a apple
orchard.

"Walking on water"
People walk on the water, seeing in the distance a little cabin
with inside art products, persiflage's based on New Age products.
You can buy them as well as a Polaroid photographs that proof that
you can walk on water.
